WASH
Clean water and proper sanitation are essential for health, dignity, and development. At Somali Charity for Relief and Development (SCRD), our WASH programs are designed to provide life-saving access to safe water, promote hygiene, and improve sanitation in underserved and crisis-affected communities across Somalia.
Our WASH initiatives focus on:
Clean Water Access: We construct solar-powered boreholes, shallow wells, and rainwater harvesting systems to ensure communities have a sustainable and safe water supply.
Hygiene Promotion: Through school and community campaigns, we raise awareness about handwashing, menstrual hygiene, and disease prevention to reduce waterborne illnesses.
Sanitation Infrastructure: We build gender-sensitive latrines and handwashing facilities in schools, health centers, and communities to improve public health and safety.
Emergency WASH Response: In times of drought, displacement, or outbreaks, SCRD provides immediate water trucking, sanitation kits, and hygiene materials to vulnerable populations.
Community-Led Solutions: We engage local leaders and residents in planning and managing WASH systems, ensuring long-term sustainability and ownership.
By integrating water, sanitation, and hygiene into our broader development strategy, SCRD helps create healthier communities where families can thrive.
